An insurance adjuster is paid to keep claim payouts low. Their first inspection often misses 30-50% of legitimate damage. Without a contractor on the roof representing you, you’re on your own — and homeowners lose thousands of dollars every storm season because they don’t know how the game works.
How to File a Roof Claim
Document the Storm
Take photos of any visible damage immediately after a storm. Save weather alerts, hail reports, and screenshots of NWS storm data. Date and time stamps matter.
Call FCRS First
Before you call the insurance company, call us. We’ll inspect the roof, confirm whether you have a legit claim, and tell you whether it’s worth filing. No claim, no fee.
File the Claim
Call your carrier’s claims line. Give them the date of loss, type of damage, and request an inspection. Get a claim number in writing.
Adjuster Meeting
Joshuwa or a senior tech meets your insurance adjuster on the roof. We point out every legitimate damage they might miss — bruising, granule loss, soft spots, lifted flashing.
Review the Estimate
Once the carrier sends a payout estimate, we review every line item. Missing items? Lowball pricing? We file supplements with proper documentation to recover what you’re owed.
Repair & Final Payment
After approval, we install the new roof to spec. Carrier releases depreciation hold-back upon completion. You sign one document, we handle the rest.
Every Major Insurance Carrier
We’ve walked AL and GA roofs with adjusters from every major carrier. We know each one’s playbook — what they document, what they conveniently miss, and how to push back when their estimate comes in low.
Insurance Claim FAQs
Will filing a claim raise my premium?
Storm-damage claims are categorized as “acts of God” in most states — they generally don’t affect your individual premium. Carriers can raise rates for an entire ZIP code after a major storm event, but your individual claim does not flag you as a higher-risk customer.
How much does it cost to use FCRS for claim help?
$0. We’re paid by the insurance carrier as part of your roof repair, not by you. If your claim doesn’t qualify or you choose to go with another contractor, you owe us nothing.
My claim was denied. Can you help?
Often, yes. Initial denials happen when the adjuster missed legitimate damage or marked it as wear-and-tear. We can re-inspect, file a supplement with photos and documentation, and request a second adjuster — called a “reinspection” in carrier-speak. Many denials get reversed on the second look.
How long do I have to file a claim?
Most policies require notice of loss within 1-2 years of the storm event. Specifics vary by carrier and state. The longer you wait, the harder it is to prove the damage came from a specific storm rather than gradual wear. Don’t wait.
Do I have to pay my deductible?
Yes. Your deductible is what you owe out of pocket. The carrier pays the rest. Beware: any contractor who offers to “waive” or “eat” your deductible is committing insurance fraud. That’s a felony in both AL and GA. FCRS will never do this.
What does “recoverable depreciation” mean?
When a carrier estimates roof damage, they pay the “actual cash value” (ACV) up front — the depreciated value — and hold back the rest as “recoverable depreciation.” You get that back after the roof is actually replaced. We make sure you collect every dollar.
